The First 3 Steps You Must Take When Starting Your Low-Tox Living Journey:

Embarking on a low-tox living journey can be both empowering and transformative. Whether you’re driven by health concerns, a desire to protect your family, or a commitment to sustainability, these initial steps will set you on the right path:

  1. Switch to Natural Cleaning Products 🧼✨ Conventional cleaners often contain harsh chemicals that can affect indoor air quality and health. By choosing natural alternatives, you’re creating a safer home environment for yourself and your loved ones. When I made the switch I placed the open bottles of Tide, Windex, Dawn, Cascade & so on in a laundry basket in the garage and replaced all of it with plant-based concentrated replacements. One fell swoop!
  2. Revamp Personal Care and Beauty Products 💄🌿 Many beauty and personal care items are loaded with toxins that can be absorbed through your skin. Start by replacing daily essentials with natural or organic options. Look for products free of parabens, phthalates, sulfates, and synthetic fragrances. Your body will thank you!
  3. Choose Whole Foods, Organic Brands & Reduce Processed Food Consumption 🍎🥦 Processed foods can hide harmful additives and preservatives. Focus on a diet rich in whole, unprocessed foods to nourish your body and reduce your toxin intake. When starting out, a great first step is to replace each of your packaged food items with organic versions (crackers, cereal, sauces, PB&J, etc.). Opt for organic produce when possible to minimize pesticide exposure.

Here are additional resources I found useful: Environmental Working Group for lots of great guides, the Think Dirty app for scanning beauty products for safety ratings, and the book, Non-Toxic by Aly Cohen, MD. Her story is amazing!
